From Monday Ochuko – Asaba
Most residents of Delta State are lamenting an alleged harassment, extortion and violation of human rights by former Force spokesman, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Muyiwa Adejobi in charge of Operations, Delta State Police Command.
Most of those who spoke to The SUPREME under anonymity alleged that, the immediate past controversial Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egberokun deployed Adejobi to Delta ” f”or the purpose of making money, not to fight criminality.”
An officer in the state noted with dismay that, “DC Adejobi had not done real police work. I mean as a DCO (Divisional Crime Officer) or as a DPO (Divisional Police Officer) or headed an Operational or Investigative office for several years to gain real policing experience. If not for favouritism Muyiwa is not suppose to head Operations in a state like Delta.”
The officer lamented that, “anywhere in Delta, the public see all of us as extortionists and corrupt. I hope the IGP will do something urgently about it to restore our image.”
It will be recalled that when IGP Tunji Disu took over from Egbetokun, he stressed that “policemen should see the civilians as the master.” But Adejobi has ignored Disu’s stern directive
Another police officer noted that, the negative report trailing DC Adejobi’s action “may be deliberate to paint the regime of our new IGP Disu in bad light, because many of us know that Egbetokun was a failure. “
Somebody noted that when Adejobi “was Force PRO he would have dismissed and paraded policemrn who committed a similar offence. But now that he is in the field nothing is happening to him.”
There are rife news that DCP Adejobi ordered some policemen to raid a restaurant, and the customers were molested almost striped naked and monies extorted from them.
Yesterday Sunday March 29, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe issued a statement that, 68 traffic offenders were arrested in Asaba and in Warri, and were charged to various courts before seven judges.
Edafe however, failed to give total figure of those arrested and number of those released, and why they were released.
The SUPREME learnt that, Muyiwa Adejobi’s policemen raided Warri, Ughelli and Asaba. And there are rife speculations that some of those arrested secured their freedom with between N100,000 and N150,000.
A blogger, Ughelli Aproko Gist described DCP Muyiwa Adejobi as Olozighe, and urged IGP Tunji Disu to call Adejobi “to order.”
