From Haruna Tula – Abuja
Controversial out going Inspector-General of Police, (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun is said to have abandoned senior police officers conference.
The SUPREME learnt that, the conference was held on Thursday 27th of last month, November 2025, in Goodluck Jonathan Conference Hall, Force Headquarters (FHQ) Abuja. The conference was on the instance of Egbetokun.
Dependable source at the conference hinted The SUPREME that, most officers had prepared to brainstorm on fresh strategies to curb the worsening insecurity in the country. Ironically, Egbetokun “briefed us only on the Presidential Order to withdraw policemen attached to Very Important Persons (VIPs).”
Some of the senior officers expressed disgust, for wasting money in taking flights from their various state commands to Abuja, only to be reminded of the Presidential Order to withdraw policemen from VIPs.
Some of them who expressed displeasure under strict anonymity, told The SUPREME that, “the invitation was unnessary, because the Presidential Order was already in the public. In this modern technology, he (Egberokun) would have convened a zoom conference and direct the senior officers to log in.” Another officer who noted that the conference slated for FHQ for physical attendance was uncalled for, said, “the IG would have sent signal to all the CPs, AIGs and Squadron Commanders to comply with the Presidential Order instead of inviting us to Abuja. We wasted money to come to Abuja only for him to tell us to comply with the Presidential Order to withdraw policemen from VIPs. An order that we already know even known to the public, including taxi drivers and market women. If he wanted to make it official to us, he would have sent signal to that effect for us to comply .”
The SUPREME learnt that, apart from directing the officers to comply with the Presidential Order, Egberokun did not discuss any security strategy with the officers. “Some of us thought the conference was meant to strategize tto curb the worsening insecurity, especially as Christmas and New Year festivals are approaching.” The officer noted that , “heightening insecurity is what everybody is talking about in the country and even outside Nigeria. It is unfortunate,” the officer lamented.
Egberokun hurriedly left the hall on the excuse that, he was tired from his trip abroad, and he needed to rest.
He directed the most senior Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Frank Mba. to take over the meeting.
We learnt that DIG Mba told the officers to direct sensitive questions to Egberokun, whenever they meet him, because he was “not in a position to answer such questions,” he was quoted.
And the conference ended abruptly.
However, discrete investigations by The SUPREME reveal that Egberokun’s health challenge was the major reason he hurriedly left the conference.
We exclusively reported early this year that, Kayode Egberokun is allrgedly battling health challenge as a result of a terminal disease. According to some medical experts, such ailment can incapacitate a victim from performing strenuous functions.
In view of his alleged health challenge, several officers who said they feel for Egberokun, urged him to resign. “We cannot afford to loose a serving IG due to health challenge,” they urged him.
It will be recalled that in November last year 2024, Nigeria deeply mourned the demise of then Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Taoreed Lagbaja over health challenge.
