The dust over supremacy between the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Police Service Commission (PSC) on who should be in charge of recruiting Constables since 2022, has finally been settled. Yet, danger looms ahead over an alleged non existing shooting range (bunker) in Police College Kaduna.
On Saturday August 10th 2024, Constables resumed training in all the Police Colleges.
The SUPREME source alleged that, the shooting range (bunker) has been sold out some years ago by one of the former Inspectors-General of Police (IGP); from the Northern part of the country (names witheld).
The fear sone police officers are expressing is that, the bunker may be used for training of bandits secretely on how to handle rifles, and that could again increase insecurity.
We learnt that, due to the alleged non existing bunker, policemen who pass out from that Police College, may not efficiently handle rifles physically.
Their lack of experuence therefore, portends seriious danger to the public, who may be victims of accidental discharges from such inexperienced policemen who may not effectively handle rifles.
Last Saturday September 7th, a batch of policemen passed out from Police College Wudil, near Kano.
Spokesman of PSC, Mr Ikechukwu Ani when contacted on whether that Police College lacks a bunker, explained that, he was, “not aware. Please call Force PRO to confirm,” he directed.
The Force PRO, Mr Olumuyiwa Adejobi could not be reached. He has blocked the phone number and WhatsApp of Editor of The SUPREME
The SUPREME has been investigating this information since July this year 2024.
However, a very senior officer in Force Headquarters (FHQ) Abuja, when contacted , pleaded anonimty, also referred us to Force PRO.
He, however, explained that, police authority has “decided to use modern technology in shooting training. We have such new technology in Ikeja Police College, one in Ibadan and another in the North,” he explained.
He, however, pleaded for time to verify, that of Kaduna, as he explained that, he was out of Abuja.
The week he got back in office was the week preceding the nation wide protest. And tension was building up.
So we gave him the benefit of waiting till after the protest.
Unfortunately, we called him a week after the protest, sent him WhatsApp and SMS messages, reminding him of his plea for us to give him time, until he returned back in Abuja, but he neither picked our calls nor replied our messages.
Investigations by The SUPREME reveal that, part of the Police College has also been sold out several years ago, and it is being used as an event center, school buildings and residential houses occupied by both police and civilians.
A former resident who pleaded anonimty told The SUPREME that, “there is no shooting range there. I once lived there, before l moved to another part of Kaduna. l learnt it has been sold out to themselves (police) several years ago.
