The Delta State Commissioner of Police CP Olufemi Abaniwonda while briefing journalists in Ughelli yesterday, highlighted remarkable achievements recorded by his command.

He noted that, he decided to shift the press briefing from the police headquarters in Asaba the state capital, because of the remarkable achievements in Ughelli, Sapele, Ekpan, Warri, and environs.

He disclosed that, his “mandate to tactical commanders, DPOS, and officers of the command is: “Deltans Must Sleep With Their Two Eyes Close.”

He also stressed that as we are approaching yuletide season, he has similarly directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) operations, to constantly monitor and supervise officers and men of the command to ensure that the Operations Order for ember months is duly complied with some of the remarkable achievements he disclosed included recovery of two AK 47 rifles, one K2 rifle, two Automatic Pump Action guns, one locally made cut-to-size gun, five AK 47 rifle magazines, three K2 rifle magazines, One Hundred and One k2 rifle live ammunition, two handcuffs and ten live cartridges. The suspects are in custody and investigation is ongoing.

He disclosed that, the above recovery was one particular operation in Ughelli. Giving details of the achievements, CP Abaniwonda explained that, based on intensive Intel gathering on a syndicate that specialized in kidnappings, armed robberies car snatching and defrauding of suspecting victims bank accounts via SIM swap around Ughelli, Warri, Sapele, Oghara, Abraka on 18th November, 2024. Operatives of CP – Special Assignment Team (CP – SAT ) which base in Ughelli arrested a notorious gang member of the said syndicate namely Godstime Ajugba 41yrs. The suspect is said to be resident of Wellington Road Area Mosogar Ethiope East LGA Delta State

According to the CP, upon interrogation, the suspect led operatives to their criminal hideout situated by “Small Pastor Area “ an out sketch of Mosogar town where they usually keep victims weapons, where the sophisticated arms and ammunition listed above were recovered.

In a related development, he disclosed that, last week Wednesday 20/11/2024, surveillance team of Ekpan Division while on patrol along Effurun Round About axis, arrested one Eto aged 31yrs with a black bag containing 57 live cartridges, upon which the surveillance team mobilised to their hide out following Eto’s confession at Coconut Village along Warri/Sapele Road by Mercy City church, and arrested one Sunny surname unknown 25yrs old, who was waiting to receive the consignment ‘ground nuts’. Suspects led operatives to their forest main hide out behind 3 Battalion Barracks Army Estate Effurun along Warri/Sapele Road being their main camp ‘Korodo’. However, as other gang members waiting inside the forest camp sighted Police vehicles they engaged police in a shoot-out. During the gun duel the arrested suspects who were leading the policemen to the hide out were fatally wounded by the gunshot of their gang members while others escaped. When a discreet search was conducted at the camp and one English Pump Action Gun, one locally made cut-to-size gun and eight live cartridges, six iPhones, some Smart phones and a Rolex gold wrist watch were all recovered in a black bag. The two injured suspects during the cross fire were taken to the hospital where they died while receiving treatment. Manhunt for the fleeing suspects is ongoing.

Abaniwonda also gave another scenario of how his men of CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) last Sunday 24/11/24 while on investigation in Ughelli metropolis, arrested two suspects connected with series of kidnappings in Ughelli LGA which include the kidnap of one man (name withheld) and a ransom of five million naira collected. The team stormed their hideout along Otokutu road Iyede. The gang members upon sighting the operatives open fire on the team. In the ensuing gun duel, two of the suspects sustained gunshot injuries. One Pump action gun, one Beretta pistol, one cut-to-size gun and six live cartridges were recovered. The injured suspects were taken to the hospital where they died while receiving treatment.

Yet, the CP said the achievements of his command are hear warning. He added that,, sequel to Intel gathered from various kidnappers armed robbers and cultists who confessed of patronizing drug cartels to boost themselves before engaging on their nefarious activities. On 13/11/2024, Operatives of CP – Special Assignment Team ( CP – SAT ) commenced raiding of identified illicit drug house, with a view to curtail their activities starting with a hidden warehouse situated along Shell Road Area of Sapele Town. The house was busted and the following drugs distributing agents were arrested viz Chukwudi Ruben 28yrs a native of Anaku Village in Ayamelu LGA Anambra State but resides at Shell Road Area Sapele Delta State, Justice Chire 19yrs a native of Obinngwa Community in Isugu Ator LGA Anambra State but a resident of Shell Road Area Sapele, Igwe Solomon 27yrs a native of Oriuzor Community in Omuigboke LGA Eboyi State but resident of Shell Road in Sapele Delta State, Peter Irikefe 44yrs a native of Kokori town but resident of Shell Road Area Sapele Delta State, Emmanuel John 32yrs a native Mayo Belwa LGA of Adamawa State but resident of behind Obile Area Sapele Delta State Alex Peter 29yrs a native of Demsa LGA Adamawa State but resident of behind Obile School Sapele Delta State and David Dominic 30yrs of Demsa Community in Demsa LGA Adamawa State but a resident of back of Obule School Sapele Delta State. The SUPREME learnt that, drugs recovered at the warehouse included multiple bottles of codeine, multiple sachets of tramadol, weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, multiple sachets of phenol drug named Canadian Loud and other prohibited drugs. Also recovered was a Toyota Camry with reg. Number KJA 996 BH used in distribution of the said drugs by the major distributor named Uzochukwu Obiora aka “Obi god” currently on the run.

In another development, the CP disclosed that, on 11th of November, following the kidnap of two boys kidnapped in November 2024, operatives of Abraka Police Station alongside members of Nigeria hunters stormed Kokori-Samagidi bush in Ethiope East LGA in search of the kidnapped victims. The kidnapers on noticing that the combined team were closing in on them fired at them but were overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the team, one of the kidnappers sustained gunshot injury while others escaped abandoning the victims. The victims were rescued unhurt and two AK-47 rifle was recovered. The injured suspects was taken to the hospital where he die while receiving treatment. Manhunt for the fleeing suspect is ongoing.

Similarly, Abaniwonda disclosed that, on August 17th 2024, a lady reported that she entered a vehicle at Efurrun roundabout and while she was on her way, she was robbed by the driver and two others who pretended to be passengers. Upon receipt of this complaint, the DPO Ekpan Police station embarked on a intelligence investigation which led to the arrest of three suspects namely Vincent Omonigho aged 22yrs, Omoni Ebi aged 34yrs, and Tive Paul aged 33yrs were arrest in Abraka and Okuokoko in Okpe LGA.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects disguised as transporters, and in some cases go to club and lure young girls promising them huge sum of money and eventually rob them in a lonely road. The suspects were said to have robbed one of their victims, who allegedly transferred seven hundred and fifty thousand naira from her bank account and also collected her iPhone 15 pro max and iPhone 13 pro max. Suspects are in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
