A clergyman, Bishop Seun Adeoye of Sufficient Grace and Truth Ministry (SGTM), Rehoboth Arena, Okinni, Osun State has stated that the nation’s economy is failing and the standard of living of people are drastically falling because Nigerians trusted in men rather than God as an agents of change.
Besides, the cleric stated in Osogbo on Sunday, August 14, 2016 that Nigeria’s present situation is beyond one man or one party solution, saying President Muhammadu Buhari should invite more financial experts no matter their affiliations to help put the nation’s economy at the right perspectives.
“While the specialists are working, all of us will be crying to the Almighty God for intervention in the nation’s affairs for Him to bring about a turnaround in all spheres of our country. All I know is that President Buhari is not a super human being; he cannot be God but he is a man like all of us.
“We also need to pray to God for forgiveness. Of course, God will be sad about the massacres of hundreds of innocent souls and the flowing of blood across our land. We must pray for our leaders most of who are arrogant, deceptive, thieves and liars for change of hearts if we want to come out of this mess”, Bishop Adeoye said.
Quoting from the Books of Jeremiah Chapter 18 verses 5 to 7 and the Books of Psalms 108 and 146, the cleric admonished Nigerians to put their trusts only in God while urging President Buhari not to close his ears to vital advises on how to move the nation forward.
According to him, “Religious leaders and individuals who have opportunity of meeting the president should not appear only as good ambassadors but should tell him the gospel truth of the untold hardship, hunger and suffering in the land.
The cleric advised both the federal and state governments against imposing severe and draconian taxes on the people as a way of raising revenues, saying Nigerians are already overwhelmed by the high level poverty in the land.
“If the nation’s economy is at recess, what is the government doing to help the populace? Government should not be talking about imposition taxes on the already impoverished Nigerians without any effort to raise their standards of living.
“We have had hike in fuel prices and skyrocketed prices of food, high cost of transportation and other essential services. Since, the coming into power of Mr. Buhari, enough jobs have not been created rather salaries of workers and pensioners across many states are not being paid”, he said.
Bishop Adeoye added, “There are more elite beggars on our street. Parents are unable to care for the needs of their children. The effect of the 2016 most politicized and publicized budget ever in the history of Nigeria is yet to be seen in the month of August.”
