Former controversial Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has been humiliated by the Police Service Commission (PSC) by recalling about 475 senior police officers
Egbetokun hastily and illegally retired the 475 police officers compulsorily early in February last year 2025.
The affected officers dragged the Nigeria Police Force, former IGP Kayode Egbetokun, the Police Force Secretary and the Police Service Commission (PSC) to the National Industrial Court Abuja.
The case lingered on since February last year 2025
Egbetokun apparently aware that the case will end in fiasco and the police would pay damages to the affected officers, was applying tactical delays of absenting from court proceedings.
At one time, because of his deliberate refusal to appear in court or be represented, the
case was adjourned to 30/09//25 for judgement.
The claimants counsel and 1st defendant counsel, the Police Service Commission were present in court while 2nd and 3rd defendants counsel, (former IGP and Police Force Secretary) were absent.
The Industrial Court later ruled in favour of the illegally retired officers.
Subsequently, the Police Service Commission complying with the court ruling, in its Plenary Meeting on June 25th 2026, decided to obey the court judgement, to reinstate the affected officers
Further more, the PSC conveyed a letter of reinstatement of the affected officers to IGP Olatunji Disu to implement.
Some of the affected senior officers include,
AIG Idowu Owohunwa, AIG Ben Igwe. CP Peter Ukachi Opara, DCP Simon Lough (SAN).

DCP Nwamanna Nelson,
CP Faniyan Ayodele Olanrewaju,
CP Nwadiogu Cletus and
CP Osifo Tony Emefile,
CP Uduak Ita

The Force Secretary, AIG Bode Akinbamilowo in compliance with directive of IGP Olatunji Disu to comply with the decision of the PSC, issued a circular to the affected officers through zonal AIGs, for reinstatement.
Subsequently, a wireless signal dated 31st July 2026, from the
Force Secretary, was addressed to the Commandant, Police Staff College Jos, and to all zonal AIGs.
The SUPREME learnt that, the recalled officers are to attend a six month course at the Staff College Jos, before they can be reintegrated in the Nigeria Police Force.
The signal titled
Re- Forwarding of the decision of the Police Service Commission taken at its Plenary meeting held on 25th of June 2026 on the regularisation of the date of first appointment of ASPs/Inspector Force Entrants: Induction Course, addressed to the Commandant and to all zonal AIGs, and copied DIG Administration as well as office of the IGP.
It also stated that, affected officers are expected to arrive at the Staff College Jos for
documentation from last week Saturday 1st of August to 16th August.
The six months course is expected to begin immediately on 17th August 2026 to 16th February 2027.
We learnt that, the Force Secretary directed the Commandant Staff College to forward to the IGP office on or before 14th August 2026, details of those who have documented.
However, some affected officers are threatening to sue Kayode Egberokun on personal basis, for making their lives miserable for the one year and half that they were out of job.
Some of them who spoke on anonymity commended leadership of the PSC, for obeying the rule of law. But that, “some of us will meet in Jos and threaten to take the wicked former IGP Egbetokun to court. “He personally took the decision and convinced the PSC to sanction us. He behaved that he will never leave office one day,” they said.
