Unknown gun men suspected to be members of ESN/IPOB operating in two vehicles were said to have engaged policemen in Owerri, Imo State capital in a shoot out this morning.
The SUPREME learnt that, at about 6am today, policemen on patrol along Owerri-Aba Road, near Owerri Airport were attacked by the unknown gun men numbering about ten. Reason for the gun duel was not immediately know as at press time.
We also learnt that, the policemen on patrol were led by an Assistant Superintended of Police (ASP) name withheld, who engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel who were said to be operating in two vehicles.
A reliable source in Owerri hinted The SUPREME that, “in an act of doggedness the operatives (police) courageously repelled the attackers with superior firepower. One of the hoodlums was neutralised (gunned down), and his AK47 rifle with 15 live ammunition were recovered “
We also learnt that, other occupants of the vehicle scampered into an adjourning bushes for safety with bullet wounds. The policemen were said to have combed the bushes with intent to arrest them, but none was arrested.
Their vehicle, a 4matucs Mercedes Jeep with registration number Lagos AAA101GR was recovered and taken to Police Headquarters Owerri with the corpse of the hoodlum.
