How Robbers Invaded A Lagos Shopping Complex Carted Away N30m Goods, Victim Accuses Security Guards

By Our Correspondent

Three guards of Finesse Security Ltd have been arrested by the police in Lagos, over the invasion of a shopping complex by armed hoodlums, and carting away of goods worth over N30m at Ikota Shopping Complex in Lagos

The SUPREME gathered that, the complex shares border with Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lekki Peninsula, Lagos.

One of the ribbed shops is owned by Dr. Mrs Helen Eto, who is said to have been doing business peacefully at the facility for about two decades.

We learnt. that, the shopping facility is run by HFP Properties Ltd which hired Finesse Security Ltd.

The SUPREME also learnt that, the robbers struck at the complex in the early hours of March 7, 2023. The complex we learnt, has about 1,850 shops.

According to Mrs Eto, the guards claimed that they forgot to lock the gate of the facility, giving the hoodlums easy access to the complex and carted away phones and other goods from Mrs. Eto’s freshly restocked shop.

She was said to have told the police in Ajah and at State CID Panti, Yaba, that, “we took bank loan for the business plus little of our savings.

“We plead that the police should help us to get to the root of the looting This incidence has made my BP and that of my husband to rise sharply because this is our main source of livelihood..”

Husband of Helen, Julius to Eto, Chairman, Editorial Board of The Daily Times and a media consultant, corroborated his wife’s account. Eto, a former Associate Editor of The Guardian newspapers, said: “The robbery is shocking because the security gate is inaccessible even to shop owners at night, our shop is just a stone’s throw from the gate and it would have taken about two hours to cut through the shop’s security system.

“This makes us to strongly see the guards as the main suspects. We were not immediately notified by the security firm or the facility managers (HFP) of the robbery which we only got to know of at about 8.20am through one of our employees.”

Eto alleged that,: “since the break-in on March 7 till March 30,th Finesse Security Ltd has not called to sympathize with us but has been evading our calls and text messages to its MD whom we learnt travelled abroad after the robbery.

“We have been doing everything to support the police investigation despite our predicament and hope they will bring the culprits to justice.”
