The veil of darkness causing groping on the rife news of tenure extension of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr Kayode Egbetokun is yet to be officially unveiled.
Kayode Egbetokun is due for retirement statutorily today 4th September 2024
The SUPREME discrete investigations reveal that, Tinubu is yet to sign into law the Police Act, that ought to empower Egbetokun to spend more three years in office, as stipulated in the Act, that subsequent IGPs are entitled to four years tenure in office.
We reliably learnt that, IGP Egbetokun left Lagos back to Abuja last Sunday, after spending three days, allegedly lobbying prominent Yoruba leaders to convince Tinubu to extend his tenure.
However, a reliable source close to the Presidency hinted The SUPREME last night that, “the President is considering him (Egbetokun) for six months extension because of the governorship elections. He has put in place considerable logistics for the elections, he would be allowed to oversee the elections,” our source affirmed.
The SUPREME further learnt that, the Director General (DG) of Directorate of State Services (DSS) is from Ogun State, the Comptroller-General of the Customs is from Ogun State, IGP Kayode Egbetokun is also from Ogun State, while the Minister of Finance is also from Ogun State.
An elder from the South West opined under anonimty that, “Asiwaju should not give sensitive pot folios to only Ogun people, because it was not only Ogun people that supported him, all of us from the South West supported him. Except in Lagos where he loss, because of the lbos. He should consider other Yorubas from other states, for good pot-follos” the elder stressed.
President Bola Tinubu travelled out of the country on Saturday evening.
He is expected to attend a bilateral meeting in China today Wednesday 4th September.
The SUPREME reported exclusively in July that, President Bola Tinubu’ had endorsed a Commissioner of Police (CP) to succeed Egbetokun this September.
We further reported that, ‘in the event Egbetokun’s tenure is not extended, the endorsed CP would be promoted to the rank of an AIG, in later part of August 2024, when the Police Service Commission (PSC) holds its Plenary. And the agenda, as we reported, is to appoint the new AIG acting IGP this month of September.
Our story is almost now vindicated, as the CP was among senior officers promoted last Friday 30th August to the rank of an AIG by thePolice Service Commission (PSC).
With the tide of uncertainty, it is not unlikely that the newly promoted AIG would succeed Egbetokun.
