The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos, AIG Simeon U. Akpanudom yesterday Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty, Alaiyeluwa Oba Rilwan Babatunde Osuolale Aremu Akiolu at his palace.
During the visit, the AIG emphasized the importance of drawing from the wealth of experience, wisdom, and guidance of His Royal Majesty towards enhancing quality service delivery to the good people of Lagos State and the nation at large. The visit further underscores the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthening the existing cordial relationship between the Police and the traditional institution.
The visit formed part of ongoing efforts to deepen collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and traditional institutions in promoting peace, security, and community development, in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police IGP Tunji Disu, for people-centred and community-oriented policing.
The AIG paid homage to the revered monarch and expressed appreciation for the warm reception and royal hospitality extended to him and his entourage. He emphasized the vital role traditional institutions play in maintaining peace and preserving cultural values, noting that the Police will continue to tap into the wisdom and experience of traditional rulers to enhance effective policing.
He further noted that understanding the customs and traditions of the people remains fundamental to effective policing and community engagement, stressing that the era of “Police versus the people” is long gone, as the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to building partnerships based on trust and shared responsibility for the safety and security of all citizens. He also prayed for the continued peaceful and prosperous reign of His Royal Majesty.
In his response, His Royal Majesty commended the Nigeria Police Force for its efforts in maintaining law and order and encouraged the AIG and officers under his command to remain steadfast in the discharge of their duties. The royal father described policing as a noble profession and urged officers to continue serving the public with integrity, fairness, and compassion.
