Arase Was Sacked While In Ibadan Receiving Guests For Police Commission Stakeholders’ Retreat

Aruga Joe Omokaro – Abuja

The shocking sack of Solomon Arase, a retired Inspector-General of Police (IGP) as Chairman, Police Service Commission was quite embarrassing, especially to his sympathisers.

This is because, he was said to be in Ibadan Oyo State capital on Monday 10/6/24 receiving delegates, who arrived Ibadan for the two day retreat, organised by the PSC through him.

We learnt that, some of the delegates for the Retreat were “already arriving Ibadan and heading to the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture IITA venue for the programme.”

Arase had put in place a stakeholders retreat that was scheduled to commence yesterday Tuesday for two days.

Spokesman of PSC Ikechukwu Ani, in a statement on Monday 10/6)24, disclosed that, “stakeholders were being expected in Ibadan city for a two-day National Retreat with the theme ” Civilian oversight in Nigeria.”

The SUPREME also learnt that, the Retreat was facilitated by the Police Service Commission (PSC), through Arase’s effort and supported by the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP.

According to Ani, those expected at the Retreat included the leadership of the National Assembly, the Chief Justice of the Federation, the Attorney General of the Federation, National Security Adviser, officials from the Ministry of Police Affairs, Nigeria Police Force and the National Human Rights Commission.

He said, also expected were the German Ambassador to Nigeria, Amb. Annet Gunther, Nigeria Union of Journalists and notable Civil Society Organisations.

The SUPREME discrete investigation revealed that, while Arase was receiving guests who arrived earlier on Monday, the embarrassing news of his sack filtered to him that, President Bola Tinubu has relieved him as Chairman of the Police Service Commission, and as such, it was honourable for him to step aside.

It was not immediately known if the retreat held, and if Solo Arase attended.

Ani could not pick our calls, or respond to our sms sent to him to confirm if the retreat held and if Arase attended.
