Delta Police Arrests Suspected Armed Robbers, Recovers Arms, Ammunition

The Delta State Police Command says it has recorded further successes in its sustained crackdown on criminal elements across the State, with the arrest of seven suspects and the recovery of two firearms and eight live cartridges in separate intelligence-led operations.

It said on 11th May 2026 operatives attached to Command Anti-Cult Unit, acting on credible intelligence, raided a suspected criminal hideout at Eku-Igun community in Ethiope West Local Government Area.
During the operation, six suspects were arrested, while one locally made single-barrel gun, one double-barrel locally made pistol, and two live cartridges were recovered from the suspects.
Investigation is ongoing to ascertain the suspects’ possible involvement in recent cult-related killings and other violent crimes within Eku, Igun, Abraka, and neighbouring communities. Efforts are being intensified to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.

In a separate operation carried out by operatives of the Safe Delta attached to the Head Bridge nipping point, on 13 May 2026, intercepted one Mokwunye Prince Jerry, male, aged 32 years, while on routine stop-and-search duty.

The suspect, who was riding a motorcycle and carrying a sack bag, was subjected to a search during which six packets of live cartridges were recovered. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect claimed to be a member of a hunters/vigilante group in Ibusa and further stated that one Anthony, presently at large, directed him to collect the ammunition. Investigation is ongoing.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi commended the operatives and reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating cultism, illegal possession of firearms, and other violent crimes in the State. The CP further urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to support the Police with credible and timely information that will aid ongoing operations and improve public safety across the State.
