Delta Police Commences Enforcement Against Concealed Vehicle Number Plates

From Monday Ochuko – Asaba

The Delta State Police Command wishes to inform members of the public that, pursuant to the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the command has commenced a statewide enforcement exercise against vehicles operating without registration number plates and those with concealed, obscured, altered, defaced, or otherwise unreadable number plates.

The exercise is aimed at enhancing public safety and strengthening the capacity of law enforcement agencies to identify vehicles, prevent crime, and apprehend offenders. The Command notes that vehicles without registration number plates or those deliberately concealed pose a significant security risk, as they are often difficult to trace and may be exploited by criminal elements to evade detection.

Accordingly, all vehicle owners and operators are advised to ensure that their vehicles are duly registered and that their registration number plates remain clearly visible at all times. Motorists are further urged to remove any device, sticker, frame, cover, or material that obstructs the visibility of their registration numbers and to immediately regularise any vehicle operating without valid registration plates.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Commanders, and officers on patrol to ensure strict enforcement of the directive across the state. Any vehicle found without approved registration plates or with tampered registration details will be stopped, impounded, and subjected to the appropriate legal processes in accordance with extant laws.

The Commissioner of Police has further tasked the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to coordinate, supervise, and monitor the exercise to ensure professionalism, uniformity, and effective implementation throughout Delta State.

The Delta State Police Command remains committed to protecting lives and property and will continue to implement proactive measures designed to maintain law and order and ensure a safe and secure environment for all residents of Delta State.

Spokesman for the Command SP Bright Edafe confirmed the story.
