Three Suspected Armed Robbers Arrested, Police Recovered Arms, Ammunition, Hard Drugs

From Our Correspondent – Enugu

The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa has vowed to sustain the Command’s crackdown on crime and criminality through proactive policing, intelligence-led operations, and relentless hunt for criminal elements across Enugu State.
This commitment was recently demonstrated through separate intelligence-guided operations that led to the arrest of three suspects linked to armed robbery, kidnapping, and illicit drug peddling, and the recovery of two firearms, six rounds of 9mm ammunition, one live cartridge, and large quantities of suspected illicit drugs.

On May 30, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m., acting on credible intelligence, operatives attached to the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) stormed a drinking spot along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway and arrested two suspected armed robbers and kidnappers. The suspects were identified as Ogbonna Chinonso (male, aged 22) and Nnachi Cypril (male, aged 35). A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of one locally made revolver pistol, one locally made cut-to-size double-barrelled gun, six rounds of 9mm ammunition, and one live cartridge.

Earlier at about 4:30 p.m. on the same date, the VCRU operatives, acting on credible information, raided a criminal hideout at Trans-Ekulu, Enugu, where they arrested a suspected drug peddler, Izunna Ani (male, aged 36). Large quantities of substances suspected to be “Loud” and “Kolos” were recovered from the suspect.

Further discreet investigations into the cases are ongoing, while the suspects will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Meanwhile, CP Giwa has commended the operatives for their professionalism, vigilance, and commitment that resulted in the successful operations. He reiterated the Command’s unwavering resolve to rid Enugu State of violent crimes and other forms of criminality, urging residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide credible and actionable crime-fighting information to the Police.

Spokesman for the Command SP Daniel Ndukwe confirmed the story.
