The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has directed the sustained strengthening and consolidation of the prevailing peaceful and stable security environment across Enugu State. He gave the directive during a strategic conference with senior and supervisory officers held at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess, Agbani Road, Enugu.

While commending the officers for their commitment to maintaining security in their respective areas of responsibility, CP Giwa charged them to sustain the momentum through enhanced visibility policing and proactive measures aimed at addressing emerging security threats. He further directed the intensification of both covert and overt security operations around schools and other public places, emphasizing the robust deployment of operatives of the Command’s School Protection Squad (SPS) to ensure maximum protection of educational institutions across the State.

The Commissioner also briefed officers on key outcomes of the recent Strategic Senior Police Officers Conference convened by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu. He highlighted the IGP’s directives on the enforcement against unregistered vehicles and unauthorized number plate coverings, strengthening inter-command collaboration in crime prevention and control through the “Handshake Patrol” initiative, and upholding professionalism and respect for citizens’ rights in policing operations.

The conference featured presentations by officers who attended various trainings and workshops on Artificial Intelligence (AI), fundamental human rights, arrest and case management, and the legal implications of police actions. Proceedings commenced with a minute’s silence and prayers in honour of the late former Commissioner of Police of the Command and Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 9, Umuahia, AIG Kanayo V. Uzuegbu, psc(+).

The conference was attended by Deputy and Assistant Commissioners of Police heading various departments, formations and directorates, as well as Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and heads of the Command’s units and sections.
