The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Department of Logistics and Supply and Coordinating Deputy Inspector-General of Police for the South-East Geopolitical Zone, DIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, has concluded a strategic operational assessment and stakeholder engagement in Enugu State. It is aimed at strengthening security collaboration, enhancing public trust, and advancing the policing vision of the Nigeria Police Force.

Speaking during the engagement held at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess, Agbani Road, Enugu, DIG Onwuemelie stated that the exercise was in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, mandating all Deputy Inspectors-General of Police to engage stakeholders across their respective geopolitical zones as part of efforts to strengthen security, deepen community trust, and build safer communities nationwide.

As part of the engagement, the DIG held an interactive session with heads of other security agencies, including the head of Enugu State Forest Guards, traditional rulers, community President-Generals, leaders of market and transport unions, members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), as well as youth and student leaders. He briefed participants on the policing vision and mission of the Inspector-General of Police aimed at repositioning the Nigeria Police Force for greater effectiveness and professionalism. He also responded to several questions and observations raised by participants on security and policing matters.

The DIG similarly held an interactive session with officers of the Enugu State Police Command, during which he encouraged them to align with the policing vision and mission of the Inspector-General of Police and remain steadfast in upholding the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and dedication to duty. The officers equally raised issues relating to welfare and other service matters, which were addressed by the DIG.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, highlighted the remarkable operational achievements recorded by the Command since his assumption of duty on March 11, 2026, as well as ongoing efforts to sustain proactive, effective, and productive policing across the state. He also outlined measures taken by the Command to strengthen discipline among personnel, promote professionalism, and enhance officers’ capacity through operational, administrative, human rights, social intelligence, and emotional intelligence training programmes.

The DIG concluded the engagements with a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.

Spokesman for the Command SP Daniel Ndukwe confirmed the story.
