Enugu CP Warns Officers Against Illegal Duties

The  Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mr Sulaiman Balarabe, has warned officers and men of his command against dabbling into civil matters and embarking on illegal duties.

Balarabe gave the warning on Friday at Agbani Police Area Command during his tour of police formations and divisions under the area command.

He stressed the need for police personnel in the state to refrain from land matters, family and customary issues.

‘‘You should not leave your professional job of fighting crime and criminality to dabbling into matters that are civil, communal and family in nature,’’ he warned.

The commissioner also urged officers to always explore the avenue of Alternative Dispute Resolutions (ADR) through mediation where necessary to settle some cases brought to them.

‘‘The essence of ADR is to settle issues amicably and build a peaceful and secure environment; while gaining the trust and confidence of the people that you are serving,’’ he said.

Balarabe reminded officers and men that bail remained free in all stations and formations of the command.

He also said that the command had zero tolerance for unprofessionalism, adding that any personnel found wanting would be sanctioned.

The commissioner used the occasion to interface with various policing actors and stakeholders within the area command.

He reassured them of his command’s continual readiness to be partnering with them for continual maintenance of peace and security in the state.
