Plateau Police Warns Against Violence, As Court Hears Suit On Jos North Indigeneship Today

From Our Correspondent – Jos

The Plateau State Police Command, under the leadership of *CP Bassey Ewa, wishes to inform the general public and all residents of Jos North LGA of a court hearing scheduled to hold at Court 9, West of Mines, Jos today Friday 10th July 2026 at 0830hrs, concerning the Jos North indigeneship matter.

The Command is aware of notices in circulation calling for mass turnout of supporters to the court premises. While the right to peaceful association is guaranteed by the Constitution, the Command notes that issues relating to indigeneship are sensitive and have in the past been exploited to cause breach of peace in parts of the State.

In view of the foregoing, the Command hereby calls on all parties to the suit, their supporters, and the general public to*remain calm and allow the court to perform its constitutional duty without interference or intimidation.

The court premises and its immediate environment are not venues for protest, mass gathering, or demonstration.

The Plateau State Police Command will not tolerate any act of violence, destruction of property, obstruction of justice, or violation of the rights of any citizen and other Nigerians resident on the Plateau. Any individual or group found instigating violence, causing a breakdown of law and order, blocking roads, or engaging in unlawful assembly will be severely dealt with in accordance with the laws of the land. Only parties to the case and duly accredited persons will be granted access to the courtroom.

To ensure safety, law and order, the Command has made adequate security deployments to the general area. The Area Commander Metro and all Divisional Police Officers under his command have been directed by the CP to ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order. All tactical teams within the Command Headquarters have been drafted to that general area and we are working in collaboration with other security agencies.

The general public is also advised to take alternative routes as there may be need to cut off some roads leading to the court premises. This is not to inconvenience citizens but to ensure that the fragile peace that we are currently enjoying on the Plateau is not tampered with. The Command has commenced stakeholder engagement with relevant leaders and groups to appeal for lawful conduct and cooperation before, during and after the court proceedings.

The Plateau State Police Command remains resolute and committed to the protection of lives and property, and to ensuring that all Nigerians resident on the Plateau continue to go about their lawful activities without fear or molestation.

The public is therefore advised to remain law-abiding and to report any suspicious movement or activity to the nearest Police formation.
